Since the start of the 2025 academic year, there have been two first-year programmes: the General First Year and the Design/Architecture First Year in partnership with ENSAPVS (there are therefore two separate entrance exams – for more information on the Architecture/Art/Design programme,it’s here).

The first year leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) begins with six weeks of technical workshops. Students are then invited to choose a preliminary specialisation from four pathways based on their practice or interests.

At this stage, students acquire the fundamentals, such as drawing, colour and volume, and discover certain practices depending on their chosen course of study, such as web arts and design, 3D modelling, photography, interaction design, prototyping, AI, or design tools…

The school also offers courses in the history of art and design.

At the end of the first year, students must definitively commit to a specialisation. These specialisations give the BA programme its specific focus.

The first semester concludes with a peer assessment conducted by the teaching team. This results in an evaluation and the awarding of ECTS credits.

The second semester concludes with an assessment comprising an oral examination and the presentation of a portfolio of work. This is assessed on the quality of its presentation, writing and iconographic research.

Students must have earned 60 ECTS credits to progress to the second year, and must also be approved by a committee at the end of the year.

In the first year of the general programme, there is no end-of-year remedial course for ECTS credits.
